Love is in the air—right alongside temporal distortion, alien interference, and a Time Lord who turns up like your ex at your mum’s wedding.
Short Synopsis
Sarah Jane’s got a secret: she’s in love, and she’s getting married! The gang’s overjoyed—until they meet her fiancé, Peter Dalton, who’s just a bit too perfect. Cue suspicious teens, dimension-hopping chaos, and a surprise guest appearance from a certain Doctor who has an awful habit of showing up precisely when things are about to explode.
Extended Storyline
It’s a sunny day on Bannerman Road, which means something’s definitely about to go horribly wrong. Sarah Jane’s been acting all mysterious—dressing up, going on “appointments,” and smiling way too much for someone who’s usually worrying about galactic doomsday devices. Naturally, Clyde and Rani suspect an alien conspiracy. Luke, bless him, suspects… dating. (Because even the idea of his mum having a love life is clearly more terrifying than Slitheen.)
The truth? Sarah Jane’s fallen in love with Peter Dalton, a charming man who’s polite, well-dressed, and apparently unaware that any woman who owns both a sonic lipstick and a supercomputer is not going to have a normal relationship. Still, Sarah Jane deserves happiness, and Peter seems lovely enough. Which, in this universe, is the biggest red flag of all.
The wedding day arrives, and everyone looks stunning—Sarah Jane radiant, Peter suave, and Clyde wearing an expression that says, “I just know something alien’s about to ruin the cake.” As the vows begin, there’s a sudden blinding light, a rumble, and poof—half the church vanishes into a time-locked bubble dimension.
Enter: The Doctor. In all his gangly, grinning glory (Tenth incarnation, for those keeping track of the regenerations). He bursts in like a cosmic wedding crasher with better hair, immediately suspicious of Peter and very unimpressed with the whole “trapped in a time void” aesthetic. Sarah Jane’s torn between joy at seeing her old friend and horror that he’s once again arrived just in time to ruin her big day.
It turns out Peter isn’t evil—just… dead. He was killed in a car accident and pulled from time by The Trickster, everyone’s favorite chaos gremlin from the “mess with humanity’s destiny” department. The Trickster offered Peter the chance to live again and be with Sarah Jane—on the condition that he help trap her in the bubble world, thus removing one of Earth’s greatest defenders. You know, typical wedding drama.
The emotional core hits hard here: Sarah Jane, devastated, realizing she’s been tricked by love itself; Peter, heartbroken as he discovers the truth; and the Doctor, quietly offering moral support while pretending he doesn’t cry at weddings. In one of the series’ most touching moments, Peter redeems himself by choosing to end the Trickster’s scheme—literally rejecting the false life he was given so Sarah Jane can go free. With a final farewell and one last smile, he fades away, the bubble collapses, and reality resets.
Sarah Jane returns to Bannerman Road, bouquet-less but stronger, surrounded by her family of oddball teenagers and one slightly smug Time Lord. The Doctor leaves her with quiet words of pride—and a look that says he knows she’ll keep saving the universe just fine without him.
