The Mind Robber

The adventure where logic takes a holiday, fiction fights back, and Zoe gets stuck in a giant book while wearing a sparkly catsuit.

Short Synopsis

The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe find themselves trapped in a white void that leads to the Land of Fiction, a place where fairy tales, myths, and literary characters come alive. The catch? The mysterious Master of the Land wants the Doctor to take his job. And unlike most job offers, this one doesn’t come with dental.

Extended Storyline

The TARDIS gets stuck in a “white void” after escaping a volcanic eruption (classic Monday). With no sets, the crew wanders around what is essentially a fog machine and a blank background while pretending it’s terrifying. And to be fair, Zoe and Jamie nearly getting swallowed by the TARDIS console is pretty nightmare fuel.

Then, things get even weirder. The Doctor and companions stumble into the Land of Fiction, which is basically the BBC costume department exploded. Gulliver shows up, but he can only speak in lines from Gulliver’s Travels. Zoe gets trapped in a giant storybook, Jamie’s face is erased and replaced by a completely different actor for an episode (yes, that actually happened), and toy soldiers march around menacingly.

The gang meets characters like Rapunzel, a unicorn, and even the Minotaur—because copyright laws in the 1960s were more of a suggestion than a rule. It’s all ruled over by the Master of the Land of Fiction, a poor bloke who turns out to be a kidnapped human writer chained to a computer, forced to churn out stories to fuel this bizarre dimension. (Insert joke about overworked BBC scriptwriters here.)

Naturally, the Master tries to recruit the Doctor to take over—because clearly “time-traveling space wizard” is the next logical career step after “fiction editor-in-chief.” The Doctor refuses, of course, and wins a showdown with the help of Jamie and Zoe by outwitting the Land’s own logic. The trio escapes, the Master is freed from his creative servitude, and the TARDIS returns to normal. Well, normal-ish.
