The Doctor and fam wake up on a space ambulance and must protect the patients from a tiny alien that eats everything. Yes, even the furniture.
Short Synopsis
After setting off an alien mine, the Doctor and friends end up unconscious and evacuated to the Tsuranga, a futuristic hospital ship. Unfortunately, a ravenous little alien called a Pting sneaks on board. Cue chaos, moral lessons, and lots of running down sterile corridors.
Extended Storyline
We open with the Doctor dragging her companions through a scavenger yard, poking around dangerous alien tech like a kid at a garage sale. Naturally, she triggers a sonic mine — kaboom. The fam wakes up aboard the Tsuranga, a fully automated medical ship with shiny walls, soothing voices, and all the charm of an IKEA showroom.
Here, we meet a cast of temporary patient-guest-stars: Eve Cicero, a legendary pilot with a dodgy heart; her anxious brother Durkas; her android consort Ronan (stoic, slightly sassy, excellent cheekbones); and Yoss, a heavily pregnant alien man who looks terrified by the very concept of labor. It’s basically Casualty in space.
Everything would be fine if not for the Pting. What is a Pting, you ask? Imagine a hairless, toothy gremlin with the appetite of a black hole. It doesn’t eat people, but it devours literally everything else — ship controls, fuel cells, weapons, life-support systems. Basically, it’s the universe’s hungriest Roomba. And unfortunately, if the Tsuranga is destroyed, all the patients and our heroes go with it.
The Doctor goes into high gear: diagnosing the Pting as unkillable (of course), outsmarting the ship’s automated self-destruct systems, and trying to keep everyone alive while negotiating with their collective stress levels. The fam splits into subplots:
-
Graham and Ryan awkwardly help Yoss through pregnancy, which includes Ryan reflecting on his own absentee dad.
-
Yaz does some corridor action-heroics and even gets to tackle the Pting, which is hilarious because the Pting is the size of a housecat.
-
Graham also drops a few comedy gems while fumbling through midwifery duties. (“Is there a YouTube tutorial for this?” feels like the vibe.)
The big crisis: the Pting eats the ship’s power source, threatening to blow the whole vessel sky-high. But the Doctor, in peak clever mode, realizes the creature can be tricked. She supercharges the power core, lets the Pting gobble it up, and ejects the satisfied little monster into space like a baby after snack time. Pting problem solved.
Meanwhile, Eve Cicero heroically sacrifices herself by piloting the ship through a crisis despite her failing heart, giving her brother Durkas the push to finally step up. Yoss delivers his baby safely (with Team Fam as the galaxy’s most awkward doulas), and the Tsuranga makes it to its destination.
The Doctor, as ever, pulls it all together with a grin — but the fam quietly processes how close they came to being spacedust.
