Fury From the Deep

Because the only thing scarier than sea monsters is the sheer amount of bubble bath they leave behind.

Short Synopsis

The Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria face a terrifying menace off the English coast: sentient seaweed that oozes toxic foam, takes over human minds, and doesn’t take kindly to being pruned. Somewhere in all the froth, Victoria decides she’s had enough screaming and bows out of the TARDIS crew.

Extended Storyline

The TARDIS lands near a North Sea gas refinery, because apparently that’s a good spot for a relaxing holiday. The Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria quickly stumble into trouble when the local gas rigs start acting up — pipes clogged, staff behaving oddly, and strange noises that sound like wheezy sea monsters with asthma.

The culprit? A nasty bit of seaweed with the charming ability to control people’s minds and spread itself via toxic foam. Think “killer kudzu,” but wetter and more clingy. Once attached, it makes humans zombie-like servants who really need to moisturize.

The Doctor investigates, as usual, by poking around in restricted areas and fiddling with other people’s equipment. He discovers that the weed thrives on natural gas, so of course a refinery is basically an all-you-can-eat buffet. Soon enough, the entire facility is swamped in frothy white bubbles, and the staff are either possessed or panicking. Honestly, it’s hard to tell the difference.

Victoria, meanwhile, spends the adventure in peak scream mode. Every hiss, wheeze, or splash of foam sets her off, which turns out to be oddly useful — her shrieks interfere with the weed’s communications. Yes, her main contribution to the fight against evil is screaming really loudly. Take that, sonic screwdriver.

Eventually, the Doctor realizes that sound — specifically high-frequency noise — can defeat the weed. With Victoria’s banshee wails as inspiration, the humans use sonar to drive it back into the sea, leaving behind a refinery that looks like the aftermath of the world’s worst foam party.

But the adventure takes its toll on Victoria. After one too many close calls with seaweed possession, she decides that perhaps constant terror isn’t the best lifestyle. In a bittersweet farewell, she chooses to stay with a kindly family living near the coast, leaving the Doctor and Jamie looking heartbroken (and possibly dreading having to recruit someone else to handle all the shrieking).
