The Christmas Invasion

The one where Earth nearly gets conquered while the Doctor naps, Harriet Jones becomes a war criminal with excellent diction, and a Sycorax leader gets pushed off a spaceship for poor sportsmanship.

Short Synopsis

New Doctor, same chaos. While the freshly regenerated Tenth Doctor snoozes through most of Christmas, the Sycorax arrive to enslave humanity with blood magic. Rose panics, Harriet Jones tries her best, and when the Doctor finally wakes up, he defeats the aliens, drops a few witty lines, and promptly causes an intergalactic diplomatic incident.

Extended Storyline

We open with a very seasonal mood: Rose, Jackie, and Mickey are decking the halls, but the Doctor’s still recovering from his regeneration. He’s unconscious, mumbling nonsense, and generally acting like someone who overdid it on the eggnog. Rose is beside herself — she wanted answers, and instead she’s got a Time Lord coma patient.

But there’s no time for family bonding. A sinister Christmas tree (yes, really) tries to slice everyone into mince pies with spinning blades. It’s remote-controlled by a trio of robot Santas, who are clearly the cheapest hitmen in the galaxy. Mickey fights them off with a chair, Jackie screams, Rose panics, and the Doctor snores. Truly, Earth’s finest hour.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Harriet Jones (remember her from Aliens of London?) is in charge. Unfortunately for her, an alien ship arrives in Earth’s atmosphere. The Sycorax — a bunch of grumpy space orcs in skull masks — announce they’re taking over. Their ace in the hole? Blood control. Turns out if you’ve ever had your blood tested (and really, who hasn’t?), the Sycorax can hypnotize you into standing on rooftops, ready to jump. Billions of people teetering on the edge of mass suicide — all while the Doctor’s still tucked in bed.

Rose, Jackie, and Mickey run to the TARDIS for safety. The Sycorax teleport the whole blue box (with them inside) onto their ship, thinking they’ve caught something valuable. Rose does her best to bargain, but let’s be honest: she’s not exactly intimidating. Jackie panics, Mickey drops a thermos, and Rose gives a heartfelt speech… which the Sycorax promptly mock. Things look grim.

And then — at last — the Doctor wakes up. He stumbles out of the TARDIS in a borrowed dressing gown, still a bit wobbly, but instantly steals the scene. Tennant’s Doctor is immediately cheeky, energetic, and dangerously unpredictable. Within minutes, he’s translating alien speech, quoting The Lion King, and generally confusing the Sycorax with his motor-mouth.

But beneath the jokes, he’s deadly serious. He challenges the Sycorax leader to single combat for Earth’s freedom. Yes, we’ve gone full Christmas pantomime: sword fight on a spaceship! The Doctor duels across the deck, showing off fancy footwork and Time Lord banter, until the Sycorax slices off his hand. Which sounds bad — until we remember he’s still within his regeneration cycle. Cue the “hand growing back” gag, complete with smug grin. Rose is equal parts horrified and impressed.

The Doctor wins the fight but offers mercy — classic Doctor move. The Sycorax leader, however, decides to be sneaky and attack from behind. Bad idea. Without a flicker of hesitation, the Doctor presses a button and ejects him off the spaceship. “No second chances. That’s the kind of man I am.” Rose, Mickey, and Jackie share a collective “wait, what?” expression.

Crisis over, the Sycorax flee. Earth is safe. Or… is it? Harriet Jones, Prime Minister, calls on Torchwood (name-drop alert!) to blow the retreating ship out of the sky. The Doctor is furious. Rose is stunned. And Harriet Jones’s political career dies in six words: “Don’t you think she looks tired?”

Back on Earth, Christmas resumes. Jackie fusses, Mickey sulks, Rose finally relaxes, and the Doctor — now fully himself — picks out his new outfit (brown suit, long coat, all dashing angles). Together, he and Rose head off into the snow, ready for more adventures. The Doctor is reborn — not just in body, but in spirit.
