The Savages

“Civilization: where the future looks shiny, but the customer service is terrible.”

Short Synopsis

The Doctor, Steven, and Dodo arrive on a planet where a supposedly advanced civilization thrives by draining the life energy of the “less advanced” Savages. Naturally, the Doctor is horrified, Steven gets promoted, and Dodo… is still here.

Extended Storyline

The TARDIS lands in what looks like a utopia: the Elders, a smug bunch of people dressed like future librarians, welcome the Doctor with open arms. They’ve been monitoring his travels through time and space, which is flattering until you realize they’re basically stalkers with lab coats.

At first, everything seems idyllic. The Elders live in gleaming cities with fancy technology, while the Savages — cave-dwelling folk with scraggly hair — are treated like background extras in a bad Shakespeare production. But, as always, the truth behind paradise is disturbingly grim. The Elders have developed a system to drain the life force from the Savages to keep themselves young, healthy, and unbearably smug.

Naturally, the Doctor is furious at this moral bankruptcy and declares the whole practice barbaric. The Elders, not impressed with his ethical stance, decide to siphon a bit of the Doctor’s life energy for themselves. This, predictably, goes very badly for them — the Doctor has more energy than a Duracell bunny and doesn’t take kindly to being used as a glorified power bank.

Steven and Dodo ally with the Savages, leading to a rebellion against the Elders. Cue much running, shouting, and general revolutionary enthusiasm. Eventually, the Savages overthrow their oppressors, and the Doctor insists they now form a new, equal society together — because nothing says “lasting peace” like forcing sworn enemies to share housing immediately.

And then comes the twist: the Doctor decides Steven should stay behind to lead this new utopian society. Steven, who probably thought he signed up for time-travel adventures and not sudden nation-building, reluctantly accepts. The Doctor and Dodo head back to the TARDIS, leaving Steven to figure out zoning laws, plumbing, and how to get two groups who hate each other to play nicely. Good luck, mate.
