Smith and Jones

The one where the Doctor cosplays as a patient, Martha keeps her cool on the Moon, and space rhinos prove that bureaucracy is truly universal.

Short Synopsis

A hospital is teleported to the Moon by alien police rhinos hunting a blood-sucking granny. Martha Jones meets the Doctor, saves the day with CPR, and immediately proves she’s not just Rose 2.0.

Extended Storyline

We meet Martha Jones, a trainee doctor with a family that makes EastEnders look like a support group. There’s bickering siblings, an overbearing mum, and a dad who shows up with his much-younger girlfriend just to stir the pot. Basically, Martha’s already fighting battles before the aliens even arrive.

At the hospital, Martha meets a charming “John Smith” patient — the Doctor, who’s doing his usual undercover routine. He flirts, he’s cheeky, and then Martha watches him remove his tie and stroll out like nothing’s wrong. Red flag? Nah, just Tuesday for the Doctor.

Then things get lunar. Literally. The entire hospital is suddenly transported to the Moon. Staff and patients freak out (fair), oxygen’s running low (worse), and in stomp the Judoon: giant rhino-headed space cops with clipboards. They’re hunting a criminal fugitive — one who just happens to be posing as a sweet old lady with a straw. That’s Florence Finnegan, who slurps blood milkshake-style from innocent victims to disguise her alien DNA. Gross.

The Judoon start cataloguing everyone, stamping foreheads like overzealous nightclub bouncers. The Doctor, of course, investigates while Martha shows remarkable composure — she’s terrified, yes, but also brilliant at putting two and two together. (Looking at you, Rose. Did you get us oxygen in a vacuum? No. No, you did not.)

The Doctor eventually finds Florence mid-sip. She zaps him, nearly kills him, and declares victory. But Martha, thinking on her feet, performs CPR to restart the Doctor’s second heart — which, fun fact, she only knows about because he sneakily guided her hand to his chest earlier. (Smooth, Tennant. Smooth.)

With a dramatic flourish, the Judoon realize Florence is the fugitive, zap her into oblivion, and peace is restored. They leave just as the hospital’s oxygen runs out — but of course the Doctor has already fixed the transporter. Everyone breathes again. Crisis averted.

At the end, Martha bumps into the Doctor once more. He casually pulls her into the TARDIS, gives her the “it’s bigger on the inside” moment, and offers her a single trip as thanks for saving his life. Martha, starry-eyed but savvy, agrees. And just like that, the Doctor’s rebound era begins.
