A mysterious energy being takes over a pop star, K-9 becomes a reluctant music critic, and humanity learns that interstellar fame is never worth the invasion.
Short Synopsis
When an alien energy lifeform bonds with London’s latest teen pop sensation, chaos follows in perfect harmony. K-9 and the gang must stop an intergalactic influencer before her new “fans” turn into mind-controlled groupies—and the top of the charts becomes the end of civilization.
Extended Storyline
We open on London’s biggest concert of the year, headlined by the outrageously famous (and outrageously autotuned) pop diva Taylia—a cross between Lady Gaga and an alien who’s read one too many fashion magazines. Starkey’s there because Jorjie dragged him along, insisting that “experiencing culture” means more than watching K-9 disassemble toasters. Darius, naturally, is there to sell bootleg merch.
Backstage, a shimmering sphere of energy bursts through a ventilation duct, unseen by the screaming crowd. It hovers above Taylia as she preps for her encore, drawn to the intense emotions radiating from the fans. When she steps back on stage, the sphere fuses with her, and her eyes flash bright blue. The audience thinks it’s a special effect. It isn’t.
K-9 detects an “unregistered energy signature” from halfway across the city and interrupts Gryffen’s latest experiment (“Statement: You were about to vaporize the carpet again, Professor”). When the team sees Taylia’s performance broadcast on every channel simultaneously—complete with subtle flashes that hypnotize the viewers—they realize something’s wrong. Starkey, less impressed, simply mutters, “Well, that explains her last album.”
At the concert, fans begin chanting in eerie unison as Taylia announces she’s releasing “a new frequency that will change the world.” Gryffen’s readings confirm it’s not a metaphor—it’s a neural resonance pattern, capable of syncing human minds. Essentially, she’s turning her followers into psychic amplifiers for the alien presence inside her.
K-9 identifies the entity as an Eiridian, an energy-based species that feeds on emotion and neural energy. They’re symbiotic by nature, but this one’s clearly developed a taste for fame and human adoration. “Statement: Parasitic tendencies noted. Comparable to influencer behavior.”
The team infiltrates Taylia’s tour headquarters—because of course her PR manager is thrilled to let in a flying robot dog and three teenagers. Once inside, they find the Eiridian has spread into the venue’s lighting system, using sound frequencies to maintain control. Gryffen tries to devise a counterwave, while Starkey distracts Taylia long enough for K-9 to scan her aura (which, unfortunately, is “99% ego, 1% alien”).
Things get worse when Taylia’s concert goes global via livestream, and people everywhere begin to hum the same hypnotic melody. The Department steps in too late (as usual), ordering the power grid shut down, which only traps the Eiridian’s energy signature inside the network. Oops.
With humanity minutes away from being assimilated by pop music, K-9 enacts Plan B: he syncs his vocal processors to emit a counter-frequency—a sort of anti-song designed to cancel out the alien signal. The result is K-9’s first (and mercifully only) single, “De-Resonance Mix Vol. 1.” Starkey jokes, “You’re literally barking into a microphone.”
As K-9 belts out his harmonic blast, the Eiridian writhes free from Taylia, briefly appearing as a dazzling humanoid form before dissipating into pure light. Taylia collapses, unharmed but confused. The audience blinks, wondering if the whole thing was part of the act. Naturally, critics hail it as her most “innovative and emotionally resonant performance yet.”
Back in the lab, Gryffen theorizes that the Eiridian may have been lonely, drawn to human creativity as a substitute for companionship. Starkey wonders if it’s still out there, floating through space and looking for its next duet partner. K-9 replies, “Statement: Recommendation—unsubscribe.”
