Because nothing says “quiet day in Ealing” like alien nuns, UFO enthusiasts, and a vault full of potentially world-ending secrets.
Short Synopsis
When a mysterious group called the Men in Black (no, not those ones) start erasing people’s memories of UFO sightings, Sarah Jane, Rani, and Clyde uncover a conspiracy involving an alien named Androvax — the Veil criminal last seen trying to hijack the Earth — and some trigger-happy robotic monks. Naturally, everything spirals into chaos, sarcasm, and moderate peril.
Extended Storyline
It’s another peaceful day at Bannerman Road, which of course means something horrifying is about to happen. Enter the Men in Black — suited, humorless aliens with memory-erasing technology, wandering around London tidying up any witnesses who’ve seen UFOs. They’re like the tidy-up crew of the cosmos, except with fewer jokes and more ominous glowing sticks.
Meanwhile, Sarah Jane, Rani, and Clyde are busy investigating a UFO club led by Ocean Waters (who sounds like a spa treatment but is, in fact, a full-grown conspiracy theorist). Her mother, Gita, is also there — because if there’s one thing more dangerous than an alien invasion, it’s Gita Chandra with free time. When Androvax, the shape-shifting Veil criminal from The Prisoner of the Judoon, suddenly reappears, things officially take a turn for the apocalyptic.
Androvax, now inhabiting a new body and being slightly less murdery (but only slightly), insists he’s on a noble mission — to free the last survivors of his race trapped in a Vault of Secrets hidden on Earth. Sarah Jane, ever the optimist, doubts this, since Androvax’s previous “noble missions” usually ended with the phrase “enslave humanity.”
Unfortunately, the Men in Black — or rather, the Alliance of Shades, because apparently everyone in the galaxy took naming lessons from emo bands — are determined to stop him. Their job? Prevent anyone from opening the vault, which could destroy the planet. So, to recap: Androvax wants to open it, Sarah Jane wants to stop him, and the Shades want to vaporize anyone who even mentions it. It’s basically an intergalactic custody battle with lasers.
Cue the usual mix of sneaking around, high-stakes arguing, and awkward running in sensible shoes. Sarah Jane tries appealing to Androvax’s better nature (which must be the size of a lentil), while Clyde provides witty commentary and Rani gets trapped in yet another alien standoff. Meanwhile, Gita stumbles into the chaos and very nearly learns the truth about Sarah Jane’s extracurricular activities, once again proving she’s this show’s most persistent near-spoiler.
Eventually, Sarah Jane realizes Androvax isn’t lying this time — he really is trying to save what’s left of his species. In a rare act of compassion (and possibly pity), she helps him open the Vault, releasing the Veil survivors. The Shades, ever the bureaucrats of doom, are appeased when Earth somehow doesn’t explode, and Androvax departs with a thank-you and only mild gloating.
As the dust settles, Gita’s memory is wiped yet again, proving that the Alliance of Shades are the galaxy’s true heroes, and Clyde gets the final word with a snappy one-liner about “top-secret nonsense.”
