The Gunfighters

“The Wild West… as interpreted by people who’ve clearly never been west of Watford.”

Short Synopsis

The Doctor needs a dentist, and instead of finding one in 1960s London like a normal person, he winds up in Tombstone, Arizona, on the eve of the legendary Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Cue mistaken identities, saloon shenanigans, and a ballad that just won’t quit.

Extended Storyline

It all begins with the Doctor complaining about a toothache (yes, even Time Lords get cavities). Naturally, the TARDIS lands in 1881 Tombstone, because the universe has a dark sense of humor. The Doctor heads straight to the dentist — who just happens to be Doc Holliday. That’s right: the only dentist in Arizona is a gunslinger with a bad temper.

Meanwhile, Steven and Dodo (who look about as Western as tea and crumpets) try to blend in at the local saloon. They don’t. Steven is promptly shoved into a piano-playing role, and Dodo ends up dressed like she’s auditioning for the Tombstone Amateur Dramatics Society.

To make things worse, the Clanton brothers mistake the Doctor for Holliday and decide to kill him. The Doctor, in return, insists he’s “just a dentist,” which convinces absolutely no one. Meanwhile, Holliday and his girlfriend, Kate, drag Steven and Dodo into the mix, further confusing the Clantons. It’s a spaghetti Western cooked entirely out of British ingredients.

As the tension builds, Sheriff Wyatt Earp and his brother Virgil try to keep the peace, but everyone keeps threatening everyone else in increasingly theatrical ways. Inevitably, it all barrels toward the infamous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The Doctor wisely ducks out of the way, Steven does his best to avoid being shot, Dodo… exists, and Holliday and the Earps deal with the Clantons in the climactic shootout.

The Doctor and friends slip back to the TARDIS, toothache solved and dignity thoroughly in tatters.
