The Claws of Axos

Golden aliens promise free power. What could possibly go wrong?

Short Synopsis

When a spaceship full of shiny beings called Axons land on Earth offering a miracle substance called Axonite, the Doctor and UNIT discover that, shockingly, it’s all a scam. Also, the Master is there, because of course he is.

Extended Storyline

The story kicks off when UNIT investigates a mysterious spaceship crash. Out pop the Axons — golden, angelic-looking aliens with hair that suggests they came straight from a 1970s shampoo commercial. They claim they’ve brought Axonite, a miracle substance that can do everything from providing unlimited energy to making chickens into kaiju-sized poultry. (Which is, admittedly, every farmer’s dream and every vegetarian’s nightmare.)

Naturally, the British government is instantly sold on the idea. Free energy? Giant chickens? Sign us up. The Brigadier remains skeptical, mostly because the Doctor’s face is already screaming “this is obviously evil.”

Turns out, Axonite is basically intergalactic malware. It isn’t a gift — it’s a trap to suck up all of Earth’s energy. And those golden aliens? Just one of the Axons’ disguises. Their true form is… let’s say “less photogenic.” Imagine a spaghetti monster that lost a fight with a lava lamp and you’re close.

Meanwhile, the Master shows up in chains — captured by the Axons, who’ve realized he’s even more duplicitous than they are. Naturally, he escapes, and in classic Master style, he starts playing both sides: helping the humans, helping the Axons, mostly helping himself. Honestly, it’s impressive he doesn’t sprain something with all that double-crossing.

The Doctor eventually tricks the Axons into a time loop, trapping them forever. He almost strands himself and Jo in the loop too, but thankfully remembers he’s the main character. The Master slips away again, UNIT blows up some things, and Earth is safe — at least until the next alien “gift horse” shows up with tentacles.
