“The First Great Who-Villain, Now with Extra Salt Shakers”
Short Synopsis
The Doctor, Susan, Ian, and Barbara stumble upon a strange alien city on the planet Skaro. Inside, they meet the Daleks—metallic pepper-pots of doom who roll about shouting “EXTERMINATE!” while waving what look suspiciously like sink plungers. Cue radioactive forests, moral dilemmas, caveman-level diplomacy, and the beginning of Doctor Who’s most iconic rivalry.
Extended Storyline
The TARDIS, apparently drunk again, lands on a bleak, dead forest of petrified trees. The Doctor insists they investigate a nearby alien city (because sightseeing always trumps survival). Everyone else votes “no,” but the Doctor suddenly has a mysterious “broken” fluid link that forces them to go. Spoiler: he faked it. Classic manipulative granddad move.
Inside the city, our heroes encounter the Daleks for the first time—giant robotic pepper shakers with the mobility of a Roomba and the disposition of a dictator. They capture the humans and reveal they’re fueled by radiation and pure hatred (mostly hatred).
The group escapes captivity by hiding in boxes and tricking a guard Dalek into an impromptu game of “suffocate the mutant inside and steal its shell.” The Doctor and Ian learn firsthand that Dalek casings are less “terrifying tank” and more “rolling tin can with plumbing attachments.”
They team up with the Thals...the peaceful, blond, vaguely Greco-Roman alien farmers who are way too pretty and pacifistic for a planet this hostile. The Doctor attempts to turn them into soldiers because nothing says “pacifist utopia” like being volunteered for guerrilla warfare.
The Thals reluctantly join forces, and Ian demonstrates tactical brilliance by shoving one of them off a cliff to prove they can, in fact, fight. (Don’t worry, the Thal survives. Only Ian’s conscience takes damage.)
Cue jungle treks, cave crawls, and monster encounters. The Thals discover that being pacifists doesn’t mean they can’t wrestle radioactive swamp monsters. Apparently “peace” is a flexible concept when Daleks are around.
Final showdown: Daleks plan to irradiate the planet (again) to make it uninhabitable for Thals and a permanent Dalek holiday resort. Our heroes and their reluctant Thal allies storm the city, pull some cables, and shut the Daleks down...for now. Moral of the story: teamwork wins, Daleks lose, and the Doctor quietly pockets the fact that he definitely lied to get everyone into this mess in the first place.
