Passerby's have become used to seeing the blue box that sits for all to see on a busy London sidewalk, but now Google has made it possible to see inside that famous box.

Thanks to Google Maps, curious cyber travelers can take a glimpse inside the TARDIS console room. But it isn't just a flat picture of the interior, it is a fully realized 3d environment. You can actually go in and wander around the console, check out the buttons and nobs, and maybe even take off on an adventure... Okay, may be you can't exactly take off, but it is lifelike enough that you feel like it might be possible.

No sign of the Doctor as yet, but perhaps he will show up while you are visiting. You also won't be able to go any deeper than the TARDIS console room, but perhaps that's for the best, don't think even Google maps could find it's way through that labyrinth.

To find the Easter egg you can follow these simple instructions as laid out by the geeking out folks at TechCrunch:

  • Click this link

  • Move your mouse around a bit. The standard Google Maps directional arrows should pop up, with one little addition: a pair of double arrows. Click those. Note: If you’re enrolled in the new Google Maps UI beta, the arrows might not appear. Instead, hit the up arrow on your keyboard…

  • Bam! You should now be in the TARDIS’ bigger-on-the-inside (smaller-on-the-outside) interior.
